The Two Columns cryogenic air separation unit is based on the principle of cryogenic distillation and uses the difference in boiling points of oxygen and nitrogen. The air is pressurized by a compressor, impurities are removed by a molecular sieve, and liquefied by a heat exchanger before entering the double-tower distillation unit. The lower tower performs preliminary separation, and the upper tower performs deep purification.

What is the role of molecular sieve adsorber in a double-tower cryogenic air separation unit?
Remove moisture: The air contains a certain amount of water vapor. In a low-temperature environment, moisture will condense into ice, blocking pipes, valves, heat exchangers and other equipment, affecting the normal operation of the device. Molecular sieve adsorbers can efficiently adsorb moisture in the air, reduce its content to an extremely low level, and prevent the occurrence of icing.
Adsorb carbon dioxide: Carbon dioxide will form dry ice at low temperatures, which will also cause blockage and damage to the equipment. Molecular sieves have a strong adsorption capacity for carbon dioxide, which can reduce the carbon dioxide content in the air to below the ppm level, ensuring the smooth progress of the air separation process.
Remove other impurities: In addition to moisture and carbon dioxide, the air may also contain a small amount of impurities such as hydrocarbons and nitrous oxide. If these impurities enter the cryogenic system, they may cause safety hazards, such as hydrocarbons may explode under certain conditions. Molecular sieve adsorbers can effectively adsorb these impurities, ensure the purity of the air, and improve the safety and stability of the device.
