Main equipment of industrial air separation unit

 

Compression system equipment


Air compressor: compresses air to the required pressure to provide power for the subsequent separation process. Common types include centrifugal and screw compressors.
Steam turbine: uses high-pressure steam to expand and do work, drives the coaxial impeller to rotate, and drives air compressors and other equipment.

 

Purification system equipment


Self-cleaning air filter: filters dust, impurities, etc. in the air to protect subsequent equipment. As the gas volume increases, the number of filter cartridges and layers will increase.
Adsorber: contains adsorbents such as molecular sieves to adsorb impurities such as moisture, carbon dioxide, and hydrocarbons in the air. There are many forms such as vertical axial flow, horizontal double-layer beds, and vertical radial flow.

 

Refrigeration system equipment


Turbine expander: makes compressed air expand adiabatically, generates cold, reduces air temperature, and provides a low-temperature environment for air liquefaction and separation. There are low-pressure, medium-pressure, and liquid expanders.
Refrigeration unit: precools the air, reduces the air temperature, and reduces the burden on the subsequent refrigeration system. Freon refrigeration units are commonly used.


Heat exchange system equipment


Plate heat exchanger: used for heat exchange between multiple flow media, so that air can exchange heat with other cold and hot fluids to achieve air cooling, heating and other processes, with the advantages of high heat transfer efficiency and compact structure.
Main heat exchanger: It is the key equipment of the heat exchange system, which cools the purified and compressed air to a temperature close to the liquefaction temperature, and reheats the separated oxygen, nitrogen and other product gases to a temperature close to room temperature.

 

Distillation system equipment


Distillation tower: including upper tower and lower tower, it is the core equipment of air separation. It uses the different boiling points of oxygen, nitrogen and other components to achieve air separation through multiple distillations, and realizes heat and mass transfer between gas and liquid phases in the tower, and finally obtains high-purity oxygen, nitrogen and other products.
Condenser evaporator: located between the upper and lower towers, it evaporates the liquid oxygen at the bottom of the upper tower through heat exchange and condenses the gas nitrogen in the lower tower, providing the necessary gas-liquid reflux for the distillation process, and is one of the key equipment to ensure the normal distillation process.


Product delivery system equipment


Liquid pump: used to deliver cryogenic liquid products such as liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, and liquid argon, and to deliver liquids from the cold box to the storage tank or user end.
Gas compressor: compresses gaseous products such as oxygen and nitrogen to the pressure required by the user for easy delivery and use.
