Liquid Oxygen Gas Plant

Liquid Oxygen Gas Plant
Product Introduction:
liquid oxygen gas plant, also known as cryogenic air separation units, produce liquid oxygen (and often liquid nitrogen) through a process of air liquefaction and cryogenic distillation. This process separates atmospheric components (primarily nitrogen and oxygen) based on their boiling points. The separated oxygen is stored as a cryogenic liquid.

How a liquid oxygen gas plant Works

NEWTEK's LOX generators are based on cryogenic air separation technology and operate as follows:
Air Intake and Compression and Filtration: Atmospheric air is drawn in and compressed to a low pressure of 5-7 bar (0.5-0.7 MPa) in the plant's air compressors (Atlas Copco oil-free rotary air compressors using screw/centrifugal technology). The air is then filtered.
Pre-cooling: The process air is pre-cooled to approximately 12°C using refrigeration before being fed into an air purifier.
Purification and Impurity Removal: The purifier, comprised of a double molecular sieve, removes impurities such as carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, and moisture from the process air. The purified air then enters the air separation unit.
Cryogenic Liquefaction: The air passes through a series of heat exchangers and then a turboexpander to cool the air to below -165 to -170°C, completing the liquefaction process. Distillation Separation: Liquid air is first fed into a high-pressure distillation column, and then the selected gases are fed into a low-pressure distillation column. Distillation achieves commercial purity, separating oxygen and nitrogen. The air entering the low-pressure plate-fin heat exchanger must be completely purified and cooled to subzero temperatures within the heat exchanger through the air expansion process in the expander. A temperature difference of as little as 2 degrees Celsius must be achieved at the hot end of the heat exchanger. Upon reaching the air separation column, the air is liquefied and separated through distillation.

Storage: Liquid oxygen is stored in a tank connected to the liquefier, forming an automated system. Liquid oxygen is then pumped out via a hose.

Industrial Applications

The introduction of liquid oxygen in metal cutting and welding operations has radically changed the limitations of traditional processes. When liquid oxygen is mixed with combustible gases (such as acetylene and propane) in specific proportions, it produces a high-temperature flame far exceeding that of ordinary air-assisted combustion, easily exceeding 3000°C. This ultra-high temperature is sufficient to rapidly melt a wide range of metal materials, including difficult-to-machine materials like high-strength alloy steel and stainless steel. During the cutting process, the high-temperature flame instantly melts the metal locally, forming slag. The strong oxidizing properties of liquid oxygen accelerate the oxidation and shedding of the slag, resulting in a smooth, flat cut surface. This not only significantly shortens cutting time but also reduces subsequent polishing steps, significantly improving processing accuracy and efficiency. For welding operations, the stable high-temperature field generated by liquid oxygen combustion ensures full fusion of the weld metal, reduces the occurrence of defects such as porosity and slag inclusions, and enhances the strength and sealing of the weld joint, meeting the high-precision welding requirements of high-pressure pipelines and heavy machinery.
